Monster Warm Up Sketch

Not much to say about this one.....a warm up sketch that turned out to be a monster....just shaded the background with pencil as not to waste too much marker ink. Done with copic markers on 9x12 50lb paper.

Invasion Of Hoth color study

I'm pretty sure I've never posted this before... Just found it & thought I would mix it up with some digital. This is a speed painting done of the invasion of hoth. I know that the geometry leaves much to be desired, but I learned that its best to use the rulers & tools provided by photoshop in order to produce more accurate geometric shapes. The only thing I really love about painter is the ability to rotate the canvas at will to create straight lines, unfortunately in photoshop 7 although it can be rotated as such, its a process & is less intuitive than painter..... practice, practice, practice. Done in photoshop 7 with a wacom.

Venom!!!

Its your favorite spider villain! At least my favorite, did this one a while ago & forgot to post it. Created for geeky-mammas & is on sale in the store now. 18x24 - ink, watercolor, marker, color pencil, conte' on watercolor paper. I think overall I didn't really like how this turned out, its not horrible or anything. The only thing I really like about it is the webs....It took me like a solid week to to do all the webs. I first penciled them in, then went over with a fine ink pen & then went over with a brush pen to give certain parts more line-weight. I think thats part of the reason I didn't like it. I spent so much time on the webs..that by the end, I just wanted to get rid of it. But now looking back, I still really like the way the webbing came out.

How 'bout a zombie today?

I said a monster today, so how about a nice zombie, haven't drawn one of those in a while. First inked with whatever pens I had layin around, then I realized that I over did some areas & needed to add some color tp make it pop, so used some copics. This is the stuff that I really enjoy drawing, not too much overthinking, no references just going with the flow. I actually havent inked anything in a while....I mean really detailed inking, so this was fun & it reminded me of how much I like it. Also showed me that I'm a little rusty, so expect a few more of these, but hopefully they'll come out better. HAPPY FRIDAY!

Dont worry though, for everybody who likes my darker stuff, I've got some of that coming up, I just need to catch up & post all the other stuff I've been doing. so I think maybe tomorrow I'll post a monster or something. Squid Boy!!!

Another Copic marker sketch, did all the skin tones with warm greys, tentacles were neutral greys & eyes cool greys. The background is kinda screwed, I was testing out copic's airbrushing system....works well for smooth background elements, only very light use, not very precise, but can give you the illusion of wide coverage on bigger pieces..anyway, this one was fun to do, I love the smooth gradation you can get with copics!

Scare Bear: Punk Bear

Here's another Scare Bear: Punk Bear, I did this one in copic markers, rather than watercolors just as a test, because it is a bit faster, & more convenient. I think that I prefer the look of the watercolor versions myself. I've asked a few people & they said both ways were fine, but I don't know. So if you wouldn't mind leaving a comment & letting me know what you think, I would really appreciate it. Here is a link to one of the watercolor bears in case you don't feel like scrolling down. http://dsilvaart.blogspot.com/2012/05/scare-bear-sacred-heart-bear.html

photoshop - skin tone study

Taking a break from posting the marker stuff ( although I have quite a few to post) This is a skin tone color study I did in photoshop 7 a while ago, just more practice with photoshop. You'd be surprised how many muted colors there are within a face, and very little saturated colors are needed to produce somewhat realistic tones.

Mole monster sketch

Just goofing around with this one, trying to see if there's much of a difference between copics & prismas. I used prismacolors for this one.

Scare Bears : Poison Bear

Hello there, Here is one of my scare bears ( my take on the care bears ) I've decided to do a series of these guys & make them a little more gritty & dark. They are really fun to paint, & I have about 4 done. I think I will do about 10 of them & then get them over to geeky mammas to see how people react to them. This was done with doc martins watercolors on watercolor paper. also used marker, colored pencil & gel pen.
