So Ive been brushing up on my photoshop skills & practicing my digital painting for the past week and a half. This is something that has been long overdue. Its something that i've wanted to learn to do for a while. I've been using photoshop for many years now, but never could grasp the technique of doing digital paintings. So I'll be posting some sketches I've done & just keep practicing. These are by no means completed works. I may decide to blow them up & redo them by traditional means, but we'll see. any constructive criticisms, or pointers are welcome.

Here's an idea i had, of an enchanted tree. Many creatures would come and wish upon the tree, but soon after the wish is granted it claims your soul.
I like to draw trees with faces in them....i don't know why, always have & always will. Actually its been a little while since I've done one, so i think thats what I'll do today. I'll post it soon!

Reptilian Caterpillar

So here's another weird little bug I dreamt up. I sketched him out in marker. This fella is a reptilian caterpillar. As you can see he is unique by having an odd shaped reptile head and arms. while the back end is more of a worm. it has small spike-like protrusions along the segment of his body to help with climbing, & its skin is covered with scales. if you look at the back end, it has a small feather-like organ in the back which it uses for combing & spreading the silk it creates. Much like a slikworm it creates layesr of silk to fortify its home which is much like a funnel spiders home. Large corridors of silk in a cluster, where it can lay in wait & ambush its prey.

Genetically altered bugs sketch - Carpenter Wasp

As a kid, I liked bugs, as do a lot of young boys, the only thing is I never grew out of it. When I was little, I used to keep a spider jar & catch every spider I could find. As I got older I still kept a spider jar, except now it was black widows. There was a time where I kept a black widow on my desk at work ( in a container of course), because I thought she was good luck. I found this adolescent widow in my bathroom & raised her until death. I believe that every creature has its place in nature, & even if I find a spider, or cricket, or a lizard then I make sure to catch them & put them outside. The reason I mention this is because it explains why I'm always sketching little bugs, real & made up. so here's a series of bug sketches & this one is called the Carpenter wasp.

The Carpenter Wasp- This guy is about the size of a squirrel & has been known to kill such creatures in self defense. His colors & markings resemble a wasp, but he's much larger & more aggressive. He has a cluster of eyes atop his head & two large feeler antennae. His Primary diet consists of termites. He uses those large jaws to rip into the dead wood of trees. His long snake like tongue is covered with an intense sticky fluid which he then uses to collect the termites. The carpenter wasp has been known to eat the flesh of larger prey in extreme situations & is equipped with a vary large & powerful stinger that is used to incapacitate its victims. These creatures will most likely make their nests in trees, often the vacant termite nests become resting spots or permanent homes.

Someone asked me the other day, why I painted him all bloody, and its for that very reason. Batman is mortal & its important to show that side.....even batman has rough days.

Here's a pic of one of the shirts I've been hand painting, entitled " The Green Master" on a mens white, XL shirt. I've been painting them with a brush to try to get a unique look. Instead of the powdery effect you get with an airbrush, you end up with a charcoal sketch like drawing with a dash of color. I will be posting another 6 over the next few days & they are all on sale. Each shirt is a one of a kind painting. I'm working on these shirts for geeky mammas. let me know if your interested.

Here's one I've done that is really not my style, i don't know what got into me. I guess i just wanted to try and do something a little more trendy & simple, just to see if I could do it. I tend to over do things sometimes & its good to try something different to take you out of your comfort zone. Had a very cool meeting with the executives of a store called geeky mamma's at their cerritos mall location. A really awesome store full of toys, collectables, artwork , but they also have a wide selection of handmade goods, which is really cool. What really sets them apart is that they also have a selection of things for women, Which is great by the way, because how many times have you been standing there drooling over toys, comics, video games, or artwork & you turn around & see your girl just giving you the look! I've been there too many times, but at geeky mammas she can kinda wander off in her own direction. I'm going to be doing some custom hand painted t-shirts & bags, such as the one shown here. Also, some custom chucks, photoprints & original paintings. I think the collaboration will be very fun! This location is still new, & so is the website but If you have a chance check it out @

A Geek At Heart

Did this one for all the geeks. I wanted to do something bright, instead of my usual dark palette. Its a weird looking heart with arms, & tentacles bursting from the bottom & a giant eyeball bursting from the top. One hand is doing the live long & prosper symbol, while the other is holding a ray gun. he's got a Nintendo controller coming out from behind him & he's standing on a couple of comic books. Its kinda like a nerds version of a sacred heart. what this picture means to me is that no matter how old you get, or what your into, you can always be a geek at heart. 8x10 watercolor on watercolor paper.

Hell's Ventriloquist

I've been Posting A lot of marker sketches, so I thought I'd mix it up & post a pencil drawing I did, with a back story, That I call Hell's Ventriloquist. Its 8x10, pencil & colored pencil, that I scanned into illustrator & cleaned up for a tshirt design. It was inspired by a story I once was told, that was used to scare little children into behaving.
There was once a brilliant Ventriloquist in the 1800's named Compari. He was an amazing performer, who loved his art. The only thing Compari loved more ,was children, so he would fashion his dolls after the little children he entertained. You see, he was a very homely & shy man, and a very lonely one, who could never have children of his own. But when he performed, children would come from all around to see Compari & he couldn't be happier. As his success grew so did his notoriety, which brought more attention to the fact that wherever the ventriloquist went, child disappearances seemed to increase as well. When they finally had Compari hanged, they found the bodies of 66 children underneath the floorboards of his house, as well as 10-15 more in a ditch behind his home. All of them found with a rusty nail lodged into the temple of the tiny skulls. Compari never uttered a word to the authorities even when they snapped his neck.
The stories say that Compari still practices his art in hell. Whenever spoiled little boys & girls are awful to their parents & misbehave, Compari rises up from Hell & snatches there souls in the night. The little boys & girls are dragged down & trapped in the hollow bodies of The ventriloquists dolls. There they follow Compari's every order as he performs his nightly show to entertain the hordes in hell, for all of eternity.

A Cyborg alien shaped like a giant tentacled floating eyeball. As you can see it has a needle gun used for administering tranquilizers as a means to incapacitate its target. Following the injection the victim is wrapped up with the tentacles in preparation for transit. 8x10 marker & ink.

My artwork tends to be very detailed & sometimes busy. But there is beauty in simplicity. I created this one to represent that beauty ( the flower ) is wonderful, but it will never truly flourish in captivity. The flower is sad & frowning while looking down at her pot, which acts as her chains, Much like many of us. Her roots will always remain encased & lonely.
